We get a slipcover with some decent art and the standard keep case to house the Blu-ray and dvd which have some pretty terrible art of one of the films coolest possessed toys, so thats disappointing that we didnt get something a little more stylized. On the special features side of things we are advertised an alternate ending that is a complete waste of time. If youve seen the movie, youve seen the alternate ending, just subtract the last 30 seconds of the film. Moving on are a bunch of disappointing deleted scenes that just seem more like re-edits of existing parts of the movie. These features are a total wash. Thankfully the saving grace on the features front is, Krampus Comes Alive, a 30 minute featurette on the making of the film. Featuring interviews with the cast, michael dougherty, but most importantly an in-depth look at the work weta workshop put into bringing the creatures of the film reviews to life. Also included are a gag reel, galleries, and a feature commentary with Michael dougherty.
Krampus can shine on the screen and actually be a genuinely entertaining piece of cinema is a delightful experience through and through. Cinematographer Jules o loughlin keeps the camera moving and the framing very pleasing to the eye, with so much whimsy and madness make going on its going to be hard not to be engrossed by the look of this film. Audio quality (5/5 hooves pounding, bells jingling, blizzard winds blowing, fire crackling, the creative sounds of demon possessed toys and so much more all backed by a fantastical soundtrack blended with classic Christmas carols. I, like mike stoklasa of Red Letter Media, want to know why Krampus didnt get at the very least an Oscar nomination for sound Design. (There is no Oscar for sound Design) Krampus sounds extraordinary, if you arent interested in the big and loud explosive nonsense of the ever popular comic book film than this is a perfectly acceptable if not better alternative to show off your sound system. The sound is unique, filled with life, yet never overbearing. Packaging special features (3/5 krampus is a very standard Universal release.
Suddenly an abrupt blizzard cuts off the town and Christmas gets much more frightful than delightful. Krampus, just like santa Claus does not work alone so we get plenty of different set pieces leading up to the finale with our title character. This keeps the pace moving and the film exciting throughout as the screen fills ups with gruesome toys brought to life, killer gingerbread men, and other surprises all courtesy of weta workshop, always ones to do great work. Combine that with comedy in all the right places, some simple yet superb storytelling, gorgeous cinematography, and some of the best sound editing youll hear all year for one fantastic new Christmas tradition. Picture quality (5/5 krampus looks stellar! Mastered in 2K the image is crisp, popping with color, and will certainly look perfect on any home theater system. Unless youre a true pixel snob or some sort of alien you wont have any gripes showing this movie off. A genre film like this doesnt usually get to look this nice so seeing that.

The filmmakers have opted for the pg-13 rating so we do have the severe lack of any bloodshed. Krampus from another angle though, this rating actually works in favor of the film because it allows it to be the perfect gateway horror film for younger children. Itll be frightful enough to make them jump but also teach them a few good lessons in the process. Its a film not just about the evil shadow of saint Nicholas wreaking havoc, its a film about tolerance and loving family. Its a wonderful melting pot of Christmas lore, some wicked creepy practical effects work, great casting, mobile and a juicy infusion of comedy. Unlike doughterys previous entry in the genre. When his dysfunctional family clashes, young Max (Emjay anthony) looses any hope of a merry christmas and accidently summons Krampus; the dark shadow of Santa. Finding its inspiration in the german/Austrian Krampus figure, using krampus also seems to lean itself against the dark Grimm stories of the area with the undeniable fairytale sense of the icy winter horrorland that magical appears overnight when the beast arrives. It is not horror mattress comedy in the same sense as, for example. Gremlins (1984 who can be enjoyed of almost the entire family. The horror is slightly more profound and the story more tense, making this a movie for a more adult audience, but which can be seen by even people with no stomach for gore. Little miss Sunshine, 2006) brings the same dignity and heart to the part as she always does and Scott (. Black mass, 2015) is good, in particular in scenes with the brilliant koechner (. Paul, 2011 but the stand outs are young Anthony (.

I cant complain about the composers choices as long as the music sounds so good. I love the surprise in Christmas Angels which is about as far from Angelic as a cue can get. Moments like this make the score shine. That cue is also the turning point of Krampus towards horror. The music creates a special imagery in my mind and i actually feel scared even if Im not listening to it alone in the dark. This makes The snow beast one of my favorite horror cues of the year. It kept me on my toes a lot of times while it charmed me in other moments.
The bell sounds and the renditions of well-known Christmas classic songs scattered throughout this album never let us forget the season. I love how some of the Xmas themes are twisted and introduced in scary cues. But enough joy and sweetness. The wish brings the shadow over the world of this score with an ominous choral motif that gives me chills and makes me very curious about what happens next. The musical story captivates me, even if ive heard it before. I think my favorite score for a dark Christmas story is Alan Silvestris a christmas Carol and the shadows from Krampus remind me of that one. Bells, bones and chains satisfies my need for a tense and creepy melody, complete with the howling of the wind and the screeching strings that remind me of Michael essay giacchinos way of ending suspense cues on a high. That string motif is not the only thing that reminds me of giacchino.
Movie, review film Summary (2015) roger Ebert
In German speaking Alpine folklore, krampus is a horned, anthropomorphic figure who punishes children during the Christmas season who have misbehaved, in contrast with saint Nicholas, who rewards well-behaved ones with gifts. There are parades and theres also a festival in most Alpine towns dedicated to him. The plot of the movie says that a boy who has a bad Christmas ends up accidentally summoning a christmas demon to his family home. This is not your usual Christmas release wallpaper but Im surely going to watch. The score was written by douglas Pipes and scores to horror comedies like this one are usually a lot of fun. The bells of the opening cue cleverly set the Christmas mood. A cold wind is nothing more than a half a minute insert but it announces the setting of the score as if it were the gong before a theater play.
